Hydration, hydration, hydration! Roses love being in water. Once received the stems should be cut and placed in a fresh vase of water as soon as possible. oHold the stems under water and cut about 2cms from the bottom of the stem with a sharp scissors. The stems should be cut at a slant. Doing this will allow the rose to start absorbing water immediately and prevent a blockage of water flowing to the bloom which is where the water needs to get!
oUse warm water, not hot or cold! This helps speed up the flowers ability to absorb the water. Do add flower food and follow the instructions on the food as to quantities.
oRoses can wilt if they don’t take water. This could mean there is air trapped in their stems. Cut the bottom of the stem under water again and leave in water for an hour. If this doesn’t work you can submerge the entire rose. Before putting it back in the water remember to cutt of the stem under water.
Eliminate bacteria sources in the water. Before placing the flowers in water remove any leaves that would fall below the water line. Repeat. For optimum vase life, repeat these steps every three days. Keep your roses in a cool area and out of direct sunlight.
